This is NOT a judgment call on the drug. This isn't a judgment call on the company either. This is a judgment call on how emotional and distracted traders can get from time to time, and we only have to look at Antares Pharma Inc. (NASDAQ:ATRS), Avanir Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:AVNR), and VIVUS, Inc. (NASDAQ:VVUS) to see how drinking the proverbial Kool-Aid ultimately punished anyone who bought rather than sold ATRS, VVUS, and AVNR right when the news seemed to incredibly encouraging.

Andrew Burton/Getty Images WASHINGTON -- U.S. businesses boosted hiring in April, according to a private survey, a sign the economy may improve after a sluggish start this year. Payroll processer ADP (ADP) said Wednesday that private employers added 220,000 jobs in April, the most since November and up from 209,000 in March. The figures suggest that the government's jobs report for April, to be released Friday, could show a healthy gain. Economists forecast that report will show employers added 210,000 jobs in April, according to a survey by FactSet. That would be the most in five months. A strong increase of 200,000 or more jobs would give the economy a much-needed boost after harsh winter snowstorms kept shoppers indoors and dragged down home and car sales. The economy barely expanded in the first three months of this year, according to a separate report Wednesday. The Commerce Department said growth was just 0.1 percent at an annual rate in the first quarter, much lower than the fourth quarter's 2.6 percent pace. More hiring would put more money in Americans' pockets, potentially boosting spending and growth. Most economists expect growth to accelerate in the spring and summer, as the weather improves and hiring picks up. The ADP report says most of the hiring occurred in service industries such as retail, transportation, and professional services. Construction firms added 19,000 jobs, a healthy gain. Manufacturing added just 1,000. Hiring was also widespread among small, medium-sized and larger companies. The step-up in hiring comes after job gains faltered over the winter. The federal government says employers added only 84,000 jobs in December and 144,000 in January. Hiring then improved to 197,000 in February and 192,000 last month. There are other signs the job market is getting better. The number of Americans seeking unemployment aid has fallen to the lowest level since the recession, a sign companies are laying off fewer workers. The ADP

It’s not all bad news, however. Two utilities should benefit from this trend, Calpine (CPN) and Dominion Resources (D), although the advantage may already be priced into Dominion’s shares, Byrd says.

The first risk NextEra faces is its extraordinarily high levels of debt. It's true that cash flow from electricity generation is steady, but so is the interest it pays on the $28.2 billion in debt the company carries on its balance sheet. Electric utilities don't have much choice when it comes to upgrading or expanding their operations in order to reduce their long-term operating costs other than to take on debt to fund projects. The danger is that sometimes this debt can even put previous darlings out of business. U.S. electric utility Calpine (NYSE: CPN ) , for example, was forced to declare bankruptcy in 2005, weighed down by $17 billion in debt at the time. Calpine's collapse had a lot to do with the weakness in the energy market generated by Enron's collapse a few years prior, but it has also failed to regain its luster since reemerging from bankruptcy.

Yesterday, small cap geothermal stock U.S. Geothermal Inc (NYSEMKT: HTM) produced a geyser of a return when it surged 26.79%, meaning its worth taking a closer look at the stock verses the performance of other geothermal stocks like small cap Ormat Technologies, Inc (NYSE: ORA) and mid cap Calpine Corporation (NYSE: CPN).First of all, I should mention there are some other geothermal stocks out there like Alterra Power Corp (CVE: AXY) and Ram Power Corp (TSE: RPG) who have their primary listing on Canadian exchanges with secondary ones on the OTCmeaning they may not be a good deal for American investors or easy to invest in. Second, U.S. Geothermal Inc itself is a good geothermal proxy as itsfocused on developing, owning, and operating clean, sustainable electric power from geothermal energy resources and itsoperating geothermal power projects at Neal Hot Springs, Oregon; San Emidio, Nevada; and Raft River, Idaho plus El Ceibillo, an advanced stage, geothermal prospect located within a 24,710 acre energy rights concession area near Guatemala City, the largest city in Central America.

Investors are hungering for Nurtisystem’s (NTRI) stock. How else to explain Nutrisystems’s huge jump today, following its earnings beat?
ReutersThe Wall Street Journal explains:
For the third quarter, Nutrisystem reported a profit of $356,000, or a penny a share, down from $2.6 million, or nine cents a share, a year earlier. Excluding one-time charges and other items, adjusted profit grew to 15 cents a share from 10 cents…
Looking ahead, Nutrisystem sees fourth quarter per-share results ranging between a two cent profit to a two cent loss, compared to the penny loss forecast by analysts polled by Thomson Reuters. The company also expects revenue will rise in the mid-single digits.
Analysts are far less enthusiastic than investors, however, largely because of valuation. Imperial Capital’s Mitchell Pinheiro explains:
We are raising our one-year price target on NTRI shares to $18, about 20% above the recent share price and maintaining our In-Line rating. NTRI is in the early stages of recovering from five years of declining revenue and we are encouraged by the 3Q13 results that reflect management initial back-to-basics strategies in the core direct marketing business. An attractive slate of growth initiatives for 2014 appears promising and we believe these should provide real newness to a product and brand that went stale with consumers. Expansion in retailers such as Walmart (WMT) and the potential for additional retail distribution in 2014 provide potential upside to revenue. At recent prices, we believe the stock reflects the improved outlook sufficiently and we remain appropriately cautious on the outlook for consumer discretionary spending in the January diet season along with the expectation that commercial diet competitors will become more aggressive.
Janney’s John San Marcoand Elizabeth Blandconcur:
Nutrisystem execution of its turnaround has been commendable and
